Sunday 19 December 2021: Advent IV
In the Bleak Midwinter https://youtu.be/Rvf9J2B7TeI
Christina Rossetti (1830-94)
Harold Darke (1888-1976)
This carol was sung at a Carol Service held at St Peter's Church in Petersham on 13 December 2020, the third Sunday in Advent. The congregation were very appreciative and you may notice some humming in places! Darke set Rossetti's words in 1909, whilst he was a student at the Royal College of Music. It's unquestionably the finest thing he wrote, and a favourite for many choristers and organists.
St Peter's decorated: in celebration of a beautiful place
Some views of the 2020 Christmas decorations at St Peter's Petersham, with thanks to florists Sue & Frank Devine who put them up so beautifully every year, and to Jean Allsop who provides the wreaths (this year's went up earlier this week). The music is 'The Holly and the Ivy', the first in a set of Interludes on Christmas Carols by William Lloyd Webber (1914-1982).
If you are not able to attend this year’s Carol Services at St Peter’s on Christmas Eve, you can find all the music from an online Carol Service prepared a year ago on this playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8GOSKsIVqaD9Rxpecn7907TTgA38PYzA
And, when you get there, Happy Christmas!
